Behavior Modification or Problem Solving

Noisy? Destructive? Just plain out of control?

Perhaps your dog already has a grasp of obedience training but you're still challenged by specific behaviors, such as running away, chewing furniture, digging, barking, reactivity to other dogs (not aggression), etc. I know how frustrating this can be but in most cases all hope is not lost. Quite often these behaviors can be altered by keeping your dog physically and mentally stimulated. Some breeds of dogs are workers and need a task to keep them on the right track while others just need a good walk or run to take the edge off.

I will help you uncover exactly what your dog needs and give you tools to help solve these problems and keep your pet safe (and preserve your mental health). Just remember, the more flexible you are in altering your daily routine with your dog the more likely it is you will have success.

The number of lessons for these types of issues can vary from one to as many as necessary.

Aggression: Not something to be taken lightly.

Unfortunately, aggression is a serious problem that many dog owners are plagued with. Whether it is due to poor socialization as a puppy, stems from genetics, or is a learned behavior (yes, quite often owners have encouraged aggression without even realizing it), aggression can make both you and your dog's life miserable. Believe me, there are very few dogs in this world that enjoy provoking fights. It goes against everything that nature has taught them over thousands of years! Taking control of the situation and helping your dog learn alternative behaviors is absolutely the kindest thing you can do.

Obedience, exercise and consistency are your best tools for treating aggression. Most of the time there are no quick fixes for these types of problems and it involves a big commitment from everyone living in the home. If everyone is not on the same page it is nearly impossible to change the behavior. It's often more difficult for owners to comply than it is for dogs!

If you are ready to make a serious commitment to changing your dog's behavior then don't hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to meet with you and create a behavior modification program specifically for you and your dog.
